Hot glue gun
Feather trim
Elmer’s glue
Flat paint brush

DIY carnaval mask (4)1 Take mask and remove unwanted embellishments. You can also find a plain mask.
2 Using the felt hold it up against the mask and mark the width with a pencil. Then create a semi circle to the height which you’ll like the feathers to sit. Fold in half and cut to create symmetry.
3 A-Take your ribbon of feathers and place it up again the top edge of the felt. Ribbon and bottom  2″ of feathers  should sit up against the felt. Mark and cut excess off.
B-If you’re using a loose bag of feathers line the 1st layer of feathers on the top edge of the felt. 2″ from the bottom of the feathers should sit on top of the felt.DIY carnaval mask (5)4 A-Using glue gun apply hot glue to the ribbon and place into top edge of felt.
B-Pick up each individual feather one at a time and apply hot glue.
5 Create 2nd row of feathers:
A-Take feather trim and place above 1st layer. 2nd row of feathers should overlap and cover about 2″ of the 1st layer. Mark and trim away accesses.
B-Take your individual feathers and overlap about 2″ of the 1st layer.
6 Glue down with hot glue gun. Same as step 4.
7 Last low of feathers: I like to use individual feathers to prevent bulkiness. If the feather’s quill  is too long, you can trim before gluing onto bottom edge.DIY carnaval mask (6)8 Back side of felt. Take trim of feathers or loose feathers and place right up again the top edge of felt. Top of feather should overlap felt about 1/2-1″ I also prefer to use loose feathers to prevent bulk.
9 Once the back side is all covered with feathers, it’s time to glue your masterpiece to the mask itself!
Squeeze a line of hot glue about 3/4″ height across the top edge of the mask. Quickly take front side of feathered piece and place bottom edge right above 3/4″ glue strip.
10 Almost done… Here comes the fun part.Time to decorate the mask itself.Take your appliques and play with the placement before using glue gun to tack down the position. 11 Apply Elmer’s glue to the whole mask using a brush. Pour glitter over mask until covered. Let dry for a couple of hours until set and Presto! You’re ready for to host your own Carnaval party.DIY carnaval mask

Sorbet Soirée

Birthdays… birthdays… birthdays!  A celebration with tones of sorbet inspired colors. It’s never too late in the year to add a little pastel to your party. I just love the light flowy texture of tulle it’s so beautiful and delicate. I picked up a handful of colors from Mood Fabrics about 2 yards each. I cut them into circular shapes to create cascading drapes. Then finished off the waist with grosgrain ribbon and lace trim for the closure. What’s a party without SWEETS! A table filled with pastel macaroons was just the perfect touch. Is this latest craze of delicate confections making you go gaga over them too?

It’s My Happy Birthday

It’s my niece Summer’s 3rd birthday. She’s really getting the hang of how birthdays work now. I was talking to my sister-in-law and she was telling me all the requests that Summer had for her celebration. A Strawberry Shortcake birthday card, cake, balloons, candles and a birthday crown. Everything was purchased except her crown and I couldn’t help but to make her one from scratch. The theme was hello kitty this year. My sister wanted to surprise Summer the morning of.  So we took the opportunity to decorate the living room the night prior after she was sound asleep.
We used her cute artwork from nursery school to give the wall a more colorful touch. I  decorated her chalk board with some doodles. Hung the tinsel, garland and birthday banner to create the coolest backdrop for her table which was set for a tea party for the morning. The last thing to do was to make a crown.  I took some scrap oak tag, cut up some hello kitty napkins and paper mâché the pieces onto the the crown shape with some Elmer’s glue.  Done and done so tired and ready for bed.
Beautiful cake from Cupcake Cafe

It was all smiles the next morning. Summer proudly told us “it’s my happy birthday today!” She was ready for her photos after she slipped on her birthday skirt. Can’t she just stay this size forever?

I’m 30!

I’m 30 ! and boy has it hit me hard. I know… I know… It’s not the end of my life just yet. But my body can’t handle it like it use to. Breaking nights these last couple of weeks and multitasking on projects for The Big Party. It’s really taking a toll on my body. I wake up in the morning aching as if i went dancing all of last night. Regardless it was all worth the pain.

On me: sequin cat ears made by me, dotted peplum top made by me, stripe pants from H&M

decorations, decorations, decorations…

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a themed party!

I made mood boards for my guest. Just to give them some ideas of how they should dress to the party.

Theme: Cirque de L’Amour

Ladies & gentlemen let your imagination run wild with Parisian carny inspired attire. Let’s play dress up and make believe. Mismatch vintage, whimsical & glam. Your outfit doesn’t really have to make sense. It just makes it that much more fun. Intermixing patterns and textures can be magical. Stripes, dots, plaids, ruffles, lace, sequins, feathers, pleats & tucks.
