Los Carnavales

carnival (2)One thing on my check list is to check out Carnival. Joe and I drove down to DC 2 years ago, some how we missed the West Indian parade. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise, turns out there was a shooting that went on. Yikes! But the after party was just as exciting.

One of the biggest and most festive Carnival in the world was just celebrated in Colombia; Carnaval de Barranquilla. Upbeat music and dancing filled the streets of this industrial port city north of Columbia. The high energy festivities lasted 4 days showcasing decorative costumes and headpieces covered in vibrant feathers, beads and all things shiny.

Even though I couldn’t make it to the lively streets of Barranquilla, doesn’t mean I have to miss it completely. Libation down in LES will be dedicating this Friday to the fun festivities with a New York twist featuring Que Bajo. I love nothing more then the excuse to dress up! My head piece is ready to go. Saúde, to the fun things in life!carnival (4)carnival (3)carnival

Coffee and Donut Anyone?

It’s that time of the year again Halloween. One of my favorite days of the year when you get to be your most creative and play dress up.  End of October is always a busy one. I need to come up with 2 costumes in less than a week and a 1/2. How do I always end up waiting until the last minute? Ekkk… I normally come up with an idea for my next costume a year in advance so that I can mentally prep myself. My husbie Joe had this idea of dressing up as a cup of Joe for quite a while now. This year I will grant him his wish. He’s always been the most supportive person and such a great sport, going along with all my crazy ideas. What better companion to a cup of coffee than a lovely donut? I did some research and this coffee and donut theme really looked unattractive. Until, I came across Donutella a Tokidoki donut inspired character that’s fueled by sugar. She’s wayyyyyy too CUTE. I just fell in love with her world. Using the NYC iconic blue coffee cup as my inspiration for my cup of Joe, I’m finally enticed enough to get started.
This past week I’ve been circling the fabric shops to find all the material I’ll need. I’m not completely done yet, but I have a good amount of supplies to get started.
What do you think of my donut accessories? Felt sprinkles and a heart shaped skull headpiece. Kinda blinged it out just a bit ^_”
I just finished putting together my donut ears. Next step: frosting and sprinkle time! Stay tuned to see how it all turns out.

I’m 30!

I’m 30 ! and boy has it hit me hard. I know… I know… It’s not the end of my life just yet. But my body can’t handle it like it use to. Breaking nights these last couple of weeks and multitasking on projects for The Big Party. It’s really taking a toll on my body. I wake up in the morning aching as if i went dancing all of last night. Regardless it was all worth the pain.

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a themed party!

I made mood boards for my guest. Just to give them some ideas of how they should dress to the party.

Theme: Cirque de L’Amour

Ladies & gentlemen let your imagination run wild with Parisian carny inspired attire. Let’s play dress up and make believe. Mismatch vintage, whimsical & glam. Your outfit doesn’t really have to make sense. It just makes it that much more fun. Intermixing patterns and textures can be magical. Stripes, dots, plaids, ruffles, lace, sequins, feathers, pleats & tucks.

I can’t forget to thank all my friends & family that got involved with the decorations along with choreographing a flash mob we put together last min. Practicing was so much fun! I felt like a drill instructor. “No time for a breather, let’s take it from the top. You’ll take your water break after the hour.”  Big thanks to Cheuk, Joleen, Myther, Martina, Chris, big sis Judy, Sabina, lil bro Vince, Anna, T-Shawn, Stan, Devon,Vasquez, Mike, Aj, Jerry, Dave & Husabebe. ❤ you guys!
